Mandatory qualifications/Licences and registrations :
- It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Veterinary Science that is eligible for registration in Queensland.
- A current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence.
- Registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland
We are looking for a Veterinarian (Operational) to:
- provide professional skills and knowledge to conduct animal disease investigations and surveillance, undertake analysis using epidemiological principles and provide animal welfare advice.
- participate in a career development program to build skills, grow expertise and connect with other professionals.
This position is part of the Northern Australia People Capacity and Response Network, an initiative which aims to build capacity of biosecurity practitioners across northern Australia, strengthen networks and partnerships and support growth and development.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare supports BQ’s efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

As an Operational Veterinarian in the frontline veterinary team, you will:
- provide professional skills and knowledge to conduct animal disease investigations and surveillance, undertake analysis using epidemiological principles and provide animal welfare advice
- develop and maintain effective local relationships, networks and partnerships with veterinary professionals, and wider government, industry and community stakeholders to promote good animal biosecurity and welfare practices
- contribute to the existing systems for animal health information collection, validation and analysis to ensure risks to trade and public health are effectively managed.
