Operating a veterinary social service with a nonprofit Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting the human-animal bond through all stages of life, with a special focus on assisting individuals during times of vulnerability.
Our approach combines the expertise of our Clinic Veterinary Team with our Social Services Team, which includes Veterinary Social Workers who play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of both our clients and our veterinary team, ensuring that pets and their humans receive comprehensive, compassionate support.

The Opportunity
The GP Veterinarian will provide general veterinary services to both private and social service clients at our clinic in Ocean Grove.
This role collaborates closely with the CEO, Vet Services Lead, veterinary team (vets and nurses), Social Services Team, and other Cherished Pets team members, ensuring all work aligns with agreed priorities and timelines.
As a unique veterinary organisation in an exciting phase of growth, we are looking for a mature, confident, and experienced veterinarian to help drive our development and deliver exceptional care.

Key Responsibilities:
- Be a welcoming face of our veterinary service at our community hub and clinic, and bring your care to our home service as well
- Provide friendly and compassionate veterinary consultations, manage clinical cases, and carry out routine day surgery procedures
- Keep client and patient records updated in our case management system. While proficiency in ultrasound is a plus, it's not a must-have
- Collaborate with our wonderful Cherished Pets team, seeking second opinions and sharing insights to provide the best care
- Help us make our veterinary services even better by contributing to the improvement of our policies and procedures
- Provide end-of-life and palliative care, including quality of life assessments and home euthanasias, with warmth and empathy.
Key qualifications and capabilities include:
- A confident and competent qualified veterinarian, registered in Victoria, with 2+ years of clinical, dentistry, and general surgical experience
- A genuine love for both people and pets, with a shared passion for our mission
- Adoption of a fear-free handling and veterinary style
- Enthusiasm for joining a growing movement that practices veterinary social work through our Social Hearted business model
- Strong clinical wisdom and good judgement in decisions related to pets, people, and cases
- An interest in End of Life care
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of clients.
- Clear, sharp, and solutions-oriented thinking
- Special interest in pet nutrition, wellness, holistic health, behaviour, training, canine rehab, pain management, or integrated medicine is warmly welcomed
- Skilled in using personal judgement to select methods, set priorities, and draw conclusions
- Confident and articulate in communication
- Excellent time management skills
- Comfortable and capable with sole charge responsibilities
- Efficiently manage the daily flow of veterinary appointments and procedures alongside the clinic team
- Ready and willing to go the extra mile.
