Veterinary Graduate Development Program
Applications are now open for the Animal Referral and Emergency Centre’s Graduate Development Program. This is a 12-month, full-time position, tailored for recent or new graduates. This is a 100% supported role providing you with the environment to thrive, while learning and developing your skills to become an ECC veterinarian.
About us:
AREC (Animal Referral and Emergency Centre) was established in 2004 and is a privately owned and operated emergency veterinary hospital led by a singular, highly regarded emergency veterinarian, Dr. David Tabrett, who continues to work within the business. We are a family-oriented, non-corporate, ASAV accredited “Hospital of Excellence” practice with a collaborative team of more than 110 employees.

The Role:
As a valued member of our team, we understand the importance of work-life balance to ensure that both your career and personal development are supported.  You will work with our team of senior ECC veterinarians in the hospital seeing a combination of primary consults, hospital cases, procedures and surgeries.  In the Hunter region we see a wide variety of emergency presentations and have a high caseload – giving you excellent case exposure.
You will be supported by a dedicated team leader who ensures targeted growth throughout the graduate program. Our team leader support model allows us to provide one-on-one clinical and personal support.
At AREC we have a growth mindset, and this is reflected in our structured graduate development program including:
- Improve International ECC Course Registration (cost of $4,650 covered by us)
- Rounds and tutorials
- Wet labs: hands-on practice in procedures and surgeries such as chest tube and feeding tube placement, tracheostomy, splenectomy, enterotomy, gastropexy.
- RECOVER certified CPR training
- Ultrasound training
- Ventilator training
- Endoscopy training
- Mental Health First Aid training
- Communication skills training
- Fear Free Training
To promote both your clinical development and work-life balance, we incorporate study/learning days into your schedule.
In addition to our structured graduate program, we make individual learning and development plans for each graduate based on their personal learning goals.
Your Skills & Experience:
- Recent or new graduate veterinarian
- Eligible for Veterinary registration in NSW.
- Keen interest in Emergency and Critical Care
