Chinchilla Vet Services is looking for a vet to join our team as we continue to expand our veterinary services in one of the most beautiful parts of Queensland.
Chinchilla Vet Services is a privately owned practice located in the heart of the Western Downs region in Queensland. Our long-established clinic has been serving the local community for well over 30 years providing high quality veterinary care to the Western Downs region. We are a truly mixed practice with a diverse and exciting small & large animal caseload, including all aspects of general medicine and a wide range of surgeries.
Our business comprises of our main clinic in Chinchilla and a branch clinic in Miles. The Chinchilla clinic boasts both small and large animal facilities featuring all the latest gadgets including digital x-ray, IM3 dental, multiple ultrasounds, Idexx biochemistry and haematology and much more. We have a devoted wildlife ward with endless opportunity to grow this area of the business for the interested veterinarian.
We have a dedicated equine reproduction facility that supports a wide range of breeding services, including stallion management, embryo transfer (ET) and artificial insemination (AI). The equine breeding segment of our practice makes up a much larger percentage of the equine caseload during the breeding season (September to February). If Equine Reproduction is an area of interest to you, we would love to nurture your passion in this field with ongoing mentoring and caseload to deepen your expertise. We also cater to a diverse equine caseload year-round, ranging from routine care and preventive medicine to more complex cases including a variety of equine health issues, such as lameness work ups to performance medicine, field surgeries and much more.

Our cohesive team is currently made up of 6 vets which includes a good mix of experience, recent graduates and new graduate vets. We also have 10 qualified and dedicated support staff. Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible to register with the Veterinary Surgeon's Board. We are looking for a vet that has strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and a deep commitment to providing exceptional patient centred veterinary care. Someone who can collaborate effectively within a team and build lasting relations with our clients.
The position is full or part-time with a salary package of $80,000 (Graduate Starting Salary) plus additional commissions for after hours, Experienced Veterinarians are also encouraged to apply – let us negotiate a suitable and rewarding salary package with you. Sponsorship (work permit) may be considered for vets from overseas.
Our clinic hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:30pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12pm. The role involves a four-day working week roster with 1-2 nights a week on call and 1 in 3 to 4 weekends on call. Generous remuneration for afterhours and additional rostered hours. CPD allowance and AVA registration licence fees paid by negotiation. There is also dedicated time blocked out during the day for note writing, case work ups, research and patient follow up.
We are in the beautiful town of Chinchilla, which is only a hop, skip, and a jump away from Toowoomba, Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coasts. This vibrant community has a mix of both industrial and agricultural industries. We are a one traffic light town which is home to the Biannual MelonFest and Big Slice of Watermelon. We also have the Grandfather Clock Campdraft competition annually.
Most sporting and hobby clubs are represented in town including football, netball, soccer, tennis, camp drafting, polocrosse, shooting, art and many more. Rodeos, horse racing and the annual Chinchilla Show as also features on the social calendar. There is a large aquatic centre with indoor heated & Olympic sized outdoor pools, beautiful botanical gardens, plentiful parks, the Chinchilla Weir for water sports, a newly renovated cinema and numerous primary & high schools.
