We're a local business (non-corporate) in the centre of Canberra. Canberra is great - really. Great food and coffee, great National Parks, great museums and galleries and great clients plus snow and surf just an easy drive away. Northside Veterinary Centre fiercely believes in work-life balance and ensuring your job is sustainable so you’ll be able to enjoy all that the region has to offer.
We are a team of passionate, fun and supportive vets, nurses, animal attendants and receptionists. We advocate and aim for fear-free veterinary care. Our existing vets have memberships in small animal medicine, feline medicine and small animal dentistry, a grad certificate in small animal emergency and critical care and have undertaken CVE distance education certificates in cardio-respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, behaviour and imaging. The team enjoys working in a collaborative fashion, sharing knowledge and discussing cases each day. We encourage your special interests and help you develop your professional skills and will invest in your further study and skill diversification. The successful candidate will have an excellent support system in place to encourage skill development and any special interests.
We believe in compassionate client care and high standard pet care. We have fabulous clients who are willing to work cases up and frequently take up the offer of specialist referral. Canberra's high median income and education rates allow us to concentrate on doing the best job possible.
The clinic has all the equipment you could want: two sterile surgeries, digital radiography and ultrasound, separate cat and dog consulting rooms and wards, heated and oxygen capable cages, tonometer, BAIR huggers, multi-parameter monitors and a dedicated dental suite with built-in dental radiography.
Recent testimonials from an experienced vet and our current new grad:
...I’ve worked in seven vet practices since graduation and I can absolutely say hands down that Northside is the best one. You have an amazing team of vets and support staff and very well organised work flow. The standard of care you provide is something to be proud of, as well as how well you take care of your staff.
…As a new graduate veterinarian, I would highly recommend working at Northside Veterinary Centre. I work with an empathetic and caring team of animal lovers; this makes me look forward to coming to work. We practice fear-free techniques, which means our patients have a stress-free time at the vet. We have team and vet meetings to discuss how to improve patient care, discuss up-to-date evidence based medicine and practices, and share any changes we would like for our job. It is a safe space to learn and share experience, skills, and management of cases, in a supportive and encouraging environment. Management is approachable and down-to-earth, they work alongside us so they are in touch with staffing needs, and provide resources for personal growth and education. A great place to work!
We’ll work with you to find a suitable roster. Our standard full time roster consists of 8 working days/fortnight, with a rostered day off each week and an additional day off after working a Saturday. Or negotiate a part-time roster. The clinic currently opens 8.00am-6pm Monday-Friday and 8.00am-1pm Saturday. There is no on-call duty and we do not open Sundays nor public holidays.
Our salary package is generous and negotiable with at minimum 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave + study leave allowance + annual practice registration and radiation licence paid, + practice membership for VIN, CVE, Plumbs and ISFM.
