Murdoch University - School of Veterinary Medicine
Clinical training programs commencing July 2025

The School of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University has vacancies in the following programs commencing in July 2025.

12-month discipline-specific traineeships

  • Emergency and Critical Care
  • Small Animal Oncology
  • Small Animal Rotating (predominantly Emergency and Critical Care, Anaesthesia)

The 12-month postgraduate trainee program is a year‐long, advanced clinical training program in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Western Australia.

The training program offers clinical experience in specific disciplines and an opportunity to gain formal scholarly training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate program. These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and upskilling in areas that would be relevant to general practice, or a steppingstone to further clinical training such as a residency. Exceptional new graduates will be considered.

An annual stipend of $40k is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate program which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of 2 semesters. Course fees are paid by the School. Applicants must be able to start the program in early to mid-July for Semester 2, 2025 enrolment.

Residency training programs

  • Anaesthesia
  • Emergency and Critical Care
  • Equine Medicine
  • Equine Surgery
  • Small animal Medicine

The three-year, full-time residency programs allow a successful candidate to target credential requirements for speciality certification. The residencies are supervised by board-certified academic staff.  Concurrent enrolment in a research master’s degree is compulsory.  A minimum annual stipend of $50,000 (tax free) is offered to residents enrolled in the program.

Application for clinical training positions is restricted to veterinarians with a degree that can be registered in Western Australia.  Australian and New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status is required.

All enquiries around the program can be forwarded to Jody Reeve by email: Jody.Reeve@murdoch.edu.au

Applications close Friday May 2nd. (Early applications/expressions of interest are encouraged).
