Current disciplines include internal medicine, surgery, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, theriogenology, dermatology, anaesthesia and cardiology with immediate plans to expand our services.
The Position:
This exciting new position has been created in response to the addition of an Ophthalmology Specialist to our growing team. In this role, you will be an integral member of the Ophthalmology team, contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care across all facets of the specialty. This includes medical, surgical, and anaesthesia nursing within the ophthalmology service. You will work collaboratively with specialists and nursing teams across surgery, internal medicine, critical care, anaesthesia, and emergency, ensuring a holistic and coordinated approach to patient care.
Our Sunshine Coast hospital will offer a remarkable array of amenities (over 1500m2), including 10 consulting rooms, dedicated cat and dog hospital wards, spacious ICU and HDU facilities, 4 well equipped surgical theatres, 4 procedure rooms, 2 ultrasound suites, in-house pathology services, a comprehensive radiography suite featuring CT and MRI* capabilities (Stage 2*), and 2 digital X-ray rooms. Nestled just 900 meters from the beach, it combines advanced veterinary care with a serene coastal setting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in ophthalmic consultations and procedures, including taking patient history and conducting basic eye tests
- Supporting clinicians during specialist consultations
- Assisting with and performing diagnostic testing
- Preparing, inducing, intubating, and monitoring patients under anaesthesia
- Managing patient admissions and discharges for surgical procedures
- Delivering high standards of patient care and maintaining effective communication with clients

We have two positions available, with the expectation that you may need to work across multiple QVS locations, with Sunshine Coast as your home base. Requirements of the Role:
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology.
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience in Veterinary Nursing.
- A strong passion for delivering exceptional patient care, a team-oriented mindset, and a commitment to professional growth
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience in veterinary nursing procedures
- A friendly, adaptable nature, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proven ability to consistently provide high-quality patient care, even in high-pressure situations
Desirable (but not essential) qualifications:
- Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Emergency and Critical Care) or similar
- Experience in an emergency or specialist veterinary hospital
