Bundoora Veterinary Group is inviting applications for our Head nurse role. We are seeking a passionate and experienced head nurse confident in leading our dedicated team of nurses. You will have strong communication skills with the ability to foster a supportive, team-oriented culture while continuing to develop strong clinical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the nursing team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Ensure compliance with the hospital's well-established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the team to facilitate seamless patient care and client communication.
  • Resolve day to day challenges faced by the team.
  • Participate in staff training and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Manage OpenVPMS booking columns and appointment blocks at all clinics.
  • Participate in Staff recruitment as required.
  • Manage new staff training & nurse competencies.
  • Resolve client complaints as required.
  • Perform staff welfare checks as required.
  • First contact point for staff complaints, and staff conflict resolution.
  • Nursing staff reviews.
  • Nursing student mentor for TAFE work.
  • Staff overtime approval.
  • Staff meetings and communications.
  • Fill sick staff shifts as needed.
  • Approve shift swaps.
  • Develop new hospital policies and procedures as approved by the Directors.

About You:

  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in veterinary nursing.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Solid theoretical knowledge enhanced by strong clinical skills and industry experience which can be used to support and develop more junior members of the team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care and client service.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Rostered shifts will be divided between clinical and non-clinical duties. Clinical nursing shifts could include hospital, surgical and nurse practitioner shifts, on weekdays, weekends and evenings.

Reporting Lines

This role will collaborate with our wider management team and report to the Practice Managers and Directors.
