Key tasks and responsibilities of the role (your contribution)
We are looking for a skilled Senior Veterinarian (Surveillance) to join our high performing team to:
- Independently and collaboratively undertake and oversee the collection and collation of scientific data and review literature as it relates to state and national animal disease surveillance.
- Use veterinary (including epidemiological) expertise to independently oversee disease surveillance activities based on nationally agreed protocols or methodologies to generate valid data and achieve ongoing compliance with relevant quality standards and national and state reporting requirements.
- Provide veterinary expertise within a science-based policy context
- Develop effective working relationships enabling communication of complex scientific information to internal and external stakeholders on issues pertaining to state and national animal disease surveillance and biosecurity matters. This includes representation at relevant forums, conferences, meetings and on committees and working groups to support, and where required, advocate, the organisation's policy position.
Mandatory requirements
- It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess a Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Veterinary Science that is eligible for registration in Queensland.
- For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
You may also have
- Postgraduate training or qualifications in veterinary epidemiology would be highly regarded.
- An understanding of biosecurity response activities and the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements and/or experience in applying your capabilities in a response environment would be desirable
