We're a locally owned business (and aim to stay that way). We’re located in the centre of Canberra in a great location next to fantastic food and coffee. Canberra has fabulous access to beautiful National Parks, with snow and surf just an easy drive away and excellent museums and galleries. Northside Veterinary Centre fiercely believes in work-life balance and ensuring your job is sustainable so you’ll be able to enjoy all that the region has to offer.
We are a team of passionate, fun and supportive vets, nurses, animal attendants and receptionists. We advocate and aim for fear-free veterinary care. We believe in compassionate client care and high standard pet care. We have fabulous clients who are willing to work cases up and frequently take up the offer of specialist referral (but we still get to work up many interesting cases). Our existing vets have memberships in small animal medicine, feline medicine and small animal dentistry, and have undertaken CVE distance education certificates in cardio-respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, behaviour and imaging. The team enjoys working in a collaborative fashion, sharing knowledge and discussing cases each day and have allocated time for daily rounds. We encourage your special interests and help you develop your professional skills and will invest in your further study and skill diversification. Candidates keen to pursue dental memberships are encouraged; we see a high referral dental case load. The successful candidate will have an excellent support system in place to encourage skill development and any special interests.
The clinic has all the normal toys: two sterile surgeries, digital radiography and ultrasound, separate cat and dog consulting rooms and wards, heated and oxygen capable cages, tonometer, BAIR huggers, multi-parameter monitors, a full pathology suite, and a dedicated dental suite with built-in dental radiography.
Recent testimonials from an experienced vet and our current new grad:
“There’s a reason I keep returning to work with them – it feels like coming home. Libby and Winston have always led with integrity and compassion – for their patients, their clients, and their staff. Their commitment to practising a high standard of medicine and surgery is something I deeply value. I absolutely love consulting, and it means so much to me to be able to recommend treatments for people's pets with full confidence in the skill and care of the team. I’d trust them with my own pet in a heartbeat, and that kind of trust is truly precious to me. It’s a joy to return to clinical practice with renewed energy and a broader perspective. I’m so grateful to be working with a team that shares my values – and I’m looking forward to caring for the animals (and humans!) of our community together - for quite a while longer, I suspect”.
“…As a new graduate veterinarian, I would highly recommend working at Northside Veterinary Centre. I work with an empathetic and caring team of animal lovers; this makes me look forward to coming to work. We practice fear-free techniques, which means our patients have a stress-free time at the vet. We have team and vet meetings to discuss how to improve patient care, discuss up-to-date evidence based medicine and practices, and share any changes we would like for our job. It is a safe space to learn and share experience, skills, and management of cases, in a supportive and encouraging environment. Management is approachable and down-to-earth, they work alongside us so they are in touch with staffing needs, and provide resources for personal growth and education. A great place to work!”
We’ll work with you to find a suitable roster. Our standard full time roster consists of 8 working days/fortnight, with a rostered day off each week and an additional day off after working a Saturday. Or negotiate a part-time roster. The clinic is open from 8.00am-6pm Monday-Friday and 8.00am-1pm Saturday. There is no on-call duty and we do not open Sundays nor public holidays.
Our salary package is generous and negotiable with at minimum 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave + study leave allowance + annual practice registration and radiation licence paid, + practice membership for VIN, CVE, Plumbs and ISFM.
