Are you an experienced veterinarian tired of the fast-paced rat race? Do you feel like you're just scratching the surface with your patients, rushing through appointments every 15-20 minutes, and not having enough time to truly dig into everything you noticed during the physical exam?
At Happy Paws, we’re different. We believe in slowing down, providing true gold-standard care for every pet, and truly getting to know our clients. If you’re ready to give thoughtful, thorough, and preventative care—addressing everything from dental health, joint care, weight management, and senior screenings—then we want to hear from you!
About Us:
Happy Paws is a boutique small animal practice located on the stunning Gold Coast in sunny South East Queensland. We focus on preventative medicine and exceptional medical treatment for every patient. We take time with our clients to build relationships and bond them to the practice—because to us, it’s about more than just treating a single condition, it’s about wellness for a lifetime. We don’t just treat the ear infection the patient came in for—we also take the time to address those subtle findings on the physical exam: the early stage dental disease, the overweight body condition score, and that suspicious soft mass that could be more than a lipoma. We aim for nothing less than comprehensive care.
We are pre-approved sponsors so if your qualification is recognised in Australia, please contact us.
The Role:
We’re looking for a veterinarian who shares our values and passion for providing high quality care. This is not a typical clinic job where you're pushed to see as many patients as possible in a day. Instead, we believe in taking the time to address all aspects of a pet’s health, even those that may not be immediately obvious. You'll have the time and support to:
- Perform thorough physical exams and address all aspects of a pet’s health
- Manage medical cases and perform routine surgical procedures and dentistry (we have an orthopaedic surgeon come in to do the orthos!)
- Collaborate with a team of highly skilled vets and nurses who assist with consults, record keeping, and treatments
- Build lasting relationships with clients, providing them with the knowledge they need to keep their pets healthy
- Participate in ongoing training with the Lincoln Institute of Veterinary Business, focusing on success, fulfilment, and wellbeing
What We Offer:
- Flexible hours: Full-time, part-time, school hours—we’re happy to discuss what works best for you (the clinic is open 08:00-17:30 Monday – Friday and 08:00-12:00 Saturday morning)
- A beautiful, purpose-built facility with ISFM Gold Accreditation (yes, we even have a separate entrance for cats!)
- All the usual bells and whistles you would expect and a supportive, collaborative environment in which to work
- Team-oriented culture with a focus on communication and positive conflict—always striving to improve the care we provide
- Competitive compensation that reflects the high level of service we provide and the skills you bring to the team (salary range 110-140K, pro-rata for part time)
- Continuing Education is encouraged and funded – we want you to be able to follow your interests
- A fantastic espresso machine in the lunchroom, because we know how important those little things are!
Who We're Looking For:
- A vet with a growth mindset, a passion for preventative care, and a drive to provide exceptional service
- A vet with at least a few years’ experience – comfortable with complex medical cases and general surgery
- Someone who values teamwork and believes in the power of communication and collaboration
- An interest in surgery would be fabulous, but not essential
- A vet who wants to truly make a difference in the lives of pets and clients alike—by going beyond just treating the immediate issue
Here are a few things, Dr Tiana said, when asked what her favourite things about her job were:
- The team & culture of the clinic is unmatched
- Scheduling is fantastic - time for call backs & catch ups, multiple save for the day booking slots to allow for emergencies or on the day calls
- Clients are well trained: rarely getting walk ins who demand to be seen; understand the importance of monitoring bloodwork & regular checks; value our work and often express their gratitude towards us
- Having actual relationships with clients who value our recommendations
- The support staff - so incredibly competent and confident they are always making my day so much easier & can put all my trust in them
- No double bookings, no “we’ll squeeze this one in”, no end of day surprise appointments before we close
- Up to date toys/equipment & a flashy clinic are nice but nothing compares to this team ☺
