Small Animal Vet
Melba Veterinary Clinic
Job Description
Small Animal Vet - 6m Maternity Leave Cover
You're a good vet. We're a good clinic. Let's not overcomplicate it.
Hi, I'm Jasmine - vet, clinic owner, and currently growing a tiny human.
While I'm off on maternity leave early next year, we're looking for an experienced vet (think 5+ years) to join our small, boutique clinic in Canberra's north. If you're confident in your medicine and surgery skills and want to work somewhere that genuinely feels good to walk into each day - this might be the place.
Honestly, if you've been in this job for a while, I trust you've got the vet part covered. What we offer is the atmosphere. If you asked my staff or clients what sets us apart, they'd tell you it's how connected we are as a team. We're small, we know each other well, and we all pull in the same direction. There's a strong feedback culture - everyone chips in, gives ideas, supports each other, and there's no hierarchy when it comes to having a voice. It's the kind of place where you don't feel like a cog in the machine.
We're a young, slightly quirky crew who work hard but laugh harder. We love our clients, we love our patients, and we love making the clinic feel like home. If that sounds like your kind of vibe - we'd love to hear from you.
We do need someone to start before Christmas, so that you've got time to settle in. But don't worry - we close down for the actual Christmas break because we believe everyone deserves a proper rest, some pavlova, and a few days without a thermometer in their pocket.
From January, you'll be working alongside Dr Harry, and then from mid-March, you'll take the reins while he's off on his honeymoon. That'll be your time to shine - sole charge, supported by a team of experienced nurses who absolutely run the show. I'll likely return 1–2 days a week from March.
You'll need to be available for our Saturday consulting shift (9am–1pm) - that part's non-negotiable. Otherwise, there is scope to have you here either 3-5 days per week (likely requiring you at full-time hours for at least March-April).
There's also a really good chance that after six months with us, you'll want to stick around - and honestly, we'd love that. We're likely to grow into a 2.5 FTE clinic in the near future (we're currently at 1.5), so keeping you on long-term is absolutely the plan.
Here's a quick peek behind the scenes. This is who we are, and why we love coming to work.
If we sound like your people, please reach out. Let's have a chat!
