Small Animal Vet New Grad

Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital

Queanbeyan, Canberra Full-Time Posted 2 weeks, 6 days ago

Job Description

Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital is looking for a new vet to join our team!

Why Queanbeyan?

We are a fantastic, friendly, and inclusive practice. Our clientele are lovely, and mostly keen to fully work up cases, so you can practice medicine to a satisfyingly high standard. As part of the Capital Paws Group we have access to a wide network of vets with different special interest areas who are always keen to help. We have sonographers, surgeons, behaviourists, dentists and medicine gurus, a rabbit vet and reptile enthusiasts, among others. We also provide internal referral to surgical and medical specialists. Whatever your question or interest there is someone to talk to.

We have regular social and continuing education catch ups, and the level of collegiality is second to none. Our group is encouraging and supportive of continuing education, and skills development. If you're interested, we would love you to get involved with the group's animal health programmes in indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

The Capital Paws clinics are all privately owned by local vets who work in their clinic and are dedicated to work life balance for everyone. The practices are extremely family friendly.

What about the bells and whistles?

  • Our clinic is delightfully well equipped with in house digital radiography, dental radiography, a great ultrasound machine (and in-house sonographer), in-house HESKA blood machines and tonometry as some of our many handy tools. We have orthopaedic capabilities as well as a wide range of general surgical and medical capabilities, including chemotherapy.

Work-life Balance and CPD

  • What about the after hours? No after hours! We're so lucky in Canberra to have two emergency centres at night time and on the weekends, and the specialist centre just down the road from us. Within the Capital Paws group, we also have a dedicated daytime weekend emergency clinic.
  • Full time four days per week OR Part-time - flexible arrangements are available and encouraged to suit your needs
  • Half-day Saturdays (8am-12pm) with a 1-in-4 Saturday rotation
  • We also offer our staff an annual wellness allowance to encourage self-care and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) if needed
  • A generous CPD allowance is also offered, including a daily allowance towards travel and accommodation costs.

New Grads are encouraged to apply

  • We offer a new grad mentorship programme, 10 days per year to focus on a specific interest within our clinic group, and monthly tutorials focused on supporting and educating new graduates. This is also a great opportunity to meet other new grads from the Capital Paws family

Why the Canberra region?

Canberra is honestly an undiscovered gem of a place to live. There is so much culture and beautiful outdoor space. As the capital, and home of all the embassies, the vibe is much more cosmopolitan than you might expect for a city of this size.

We are conveniently placed close to the mountains and South Coast, and it is honestly so easy to dash to other places, such as Sydney, for a visit. The climate is beautiful and the air is fresh. You can get anywhere in town within 30 minutes as a rule! Coming with a family? This is an excellent city to raise kids, the schools are fantastic, there are so many things to do (and if you join us, you're welcome to ask me about them!) Coming as a new grad? This is a lively city full of young professionals with heaps of social, sporting and hobby opportunities.

Who should apply?

If you are a small animal vet with a love of providing high quality care and looking to be a part of a supportive team, we would love to hear from you. Whether you are a new grad or an experienced hand, I am sure you will appreciate our warm and supportive environment.

We are committed to providing support and mentoring for our new grads, and generally being an encouraging team for all staff across the group.
