Central Veterinary Clinic & Hospital, in Tarneit, Western Melbourne (near Werribee vet school), is a new independent clinic that first opened its doors on the 6th Oct 2023. Starting as a mobile business before that, we have a very busy and steady stream of clients. We operate as a regular clinic Monday to Friday and operate as an emergency clinic on Saturdays and Sundays. This means we see lots of interesting and varied cases. This includes a cat bitten by a snake just yesterday - late May of all times - brought back to normal after having a temperature below readable!
Our main vet has been practicing in small animal medicine for over 16 years. Our ethos is: excellence, empathy, and compassion. We believe in working up cases thoroughly to get the correct diagnosis and treatment from the start. This requires all the tools: xrays, ultrasound, full blood suite, including coagulation tests, blood matching, microscopy, tonometry, capnograph, blood pressure, multiple GA machines, oxygen cages, dental xray, and lots of varied medications... We have a lot.
We enjoy working up complex cases as well as doing all kinds of surgery. We've done your foreign bodies, cystotomies, pyometras, anal gland removal, cherry eye surgery, fracture plate repair, patella and cruciate surgeries, soft palate surgeries. We have all the tools and equipment.
Our nurses are highly dedicated and exceptional. I love our team and hope you will too! They make my life so much easier.
We are looking for someone who fits in well with the team. We want somebody with empathy, who treats animals and owners with respect and who sees themselves as part of a larger clinic team, to make everyone's working lives pleasant and rewarding, whilst helping owners and their animals through the various stages of life.
The position available is flexible, as in we are after the correct fit. Normal vet hours are 9 am until 6 or 8 pm, Monday to Friday, and 11 am until 10 pm Saturday and Sunday. Ideally, we are looking for midweek and weekend coverage. There can be flexibility with days and times to suit the right candidate. We will consider full-time, part-time, and casual applications.
This will necessarily be sole charge. The weekday shift involves morning and afternoon consults with surgery scheduled during the middle of the day. So, the candidate should be comfortable with sole charge consulting and surgery. Although I am available very frequently (via Telegram) for input if required. The weekend shifts involve some standard consults initially but then only emergencies for the rest of the day. This can involve anything - lots of blocked cats, stitch-ups, animals in heart failure, HGE, foreign bodies, caesarean sections etc. We do such emergency surgeries on weekends where necessary.
If you are interested, please send a cover letter and Cv to meredithcrowhurst@gmail.com.
The rate offered will depend on experience and ability, but we also hope that it will be high enough to make you feel appreciated and happy.
