Vet or Vet Nurse for HR Administrator
The Austin Vet Specialists
Job Description
A slightly different job ad - read on!
Our HR team is expanding and we are specifically looking for vets or vet nurses who would like to expand their career into HR, as a HR Administrator.
We believe your deep understanding of the veterinary environment, coupled with your innate dedication to patient and client care, makes you uniquely positioned to excel in an HR function within our specialist centre.
You will learn from our HR Manager, who will tutor you to develop your HR career within a growing business, and take it to the next level. We are seeking a highly motivated person with excellent communication skills and a positive demeanour who wants to expand their career into HR. If you believe that caring for the people you work with AND the people we serve is the basis of success, join us!
The role
This is an amazing opportunity to be actively involved in supporting our nearly 100-strong team of dedicated veterinary professionals. Beyond providing essential, confidential administrative support and ensuring our HR operations run smoothly for our specialist clinic, a significant part of your role will involve:
- Rostering: Developing and managing team rosters for various departments, including Urgent Care, Wards, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Ophthalmology, and Nights, ensuring optimal staffing for our specialist services, which operate across extended hours including weekends and night shifts.
- Training and Development: Playing a key role in identifying and facilitating training and development opportunities for our team, helping them grow their skills and careers.
- General HR Administration: This will include supporting various HR processes, managing highly sensitive data confidentially, and utilising strong computer literacy, including HRMS/time and attendance systems and Google applications.
You will receive full support and backup from our experienced HR Manager, who is committed to mentoring you as you develop your HR and people management skills on the job. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow with the business, with on-the-job mentoring coupled with training and development opportunities.
The ideal candidate for this unique pathway will possess:
- A relevant veterinary qualification (e.g., Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent experience as a Veterinary Nurse or Veterinarian).
- A strong desire and motivation to pursue HR as your chosen profession, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional development in this new field.
- Proven administrative capabilities, with above-average attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively under pressure.
- A proven ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive data.
- The capacity to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- The proven ability to work under limited supervision, using initiative to prioritise and complete tasks accurately within desired timelines.
- A sound understanding of, or a willingness to learn, relevant legislation (IR and WHS) and Modern Awards, or desire to learn.
- A positive mindset and the ability to maintain a positive demeanour even under stress.
This role is a people role so you will need to have excellent communication qualities, and pride yourself in your interpersonal skills. From our end, we will support further training which could include studying Human Resource Management or other relevant certifications.
This role requires a minimum commitment of at least 30 hours per week. Oh, and of course, being an animal person is a given – you're welcome to bring your dog to work, where we have a dedicated pooch lounge for our team!
If you are ready to apply your passion for animals and people in a brand-new capacity, developing your HR and people management skills in a supportive, high-standards environment where happiness and fulfilment are key, we want to hear from you!
