Would you like to join a tight-knit team of professionals who pride themselves on their work ethic and excellent patient care and customer service?

Who we are:
We’re looking for a full-time or part-time veterinarian with a minimum of 2 years’ experience to join our team of highly skilled vets and nurses. At Richmond & Wilberforce Vet Hospital, patient care is our top priority, and we take no shortcuts to achieve this.
You’ll be working across our two practices, Richmond Vet Hospital and Wilberforce Vet Hospital, working an average of 4.5 days a week, Mon-Sun on a rotating roster, with a 3-day long weekend each rotation.
Our team currently consists of 3 veterinarians, 7 veterinary nurses, and 1 practice manager, and whichever kitten rescues we are looking after at the time!
We are committed to our staff’s wellbeing and ongoing training and education for both our vets and nurses, providing study leave and funding for educational courses and seminars for all staff.
Richmond Vet Hospital was first established in 1988, and Wilberforce in 1998, and in this time, we have built a reputation for consistently providing a high standard of care and treatment for our patients, and excellent customer service for our clients, which has earned us a very loyal client base that even includes third generation clientele.
What we look for in a vet:
- A Bachelor of Veterinary Science of course!
- Compassion, empathy, and a commitment to always give their patients and clients the best of care.
- Great communication skills – with both clients and co-workers.
- An inclusive and collaborative approach to working in a team environment.
- Focused, with strong attention to detail.
- The ability to investigate and solve complex problems and diagnoses.
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- A level head and strong triage skills necessary to work in a fast-paced and at times, high pressure environment.
- A commitment to their ongoing training and professional development.
- Accountability, someone who will take responsibility for their patients.
What we can offer you:
- A competitive salary – We don’t shy away from paying our staff what they’re worth.
- Training built on 35+ years of veterinary experience, as well as 5 days of study leave per year (PR), and $2,500 of study allowance per year (PR).
- 4 weeks annual leave.
- A culture of ethical, compassionate, and honest patient care.
- A supportive and collaborative environment with management that really cares about their staff.
- A fun, friendly team who loves what they do and has a good time doing it.
- Resources to provide the best of care to our patients.
- Diagnostic equipment that includes digital x-rays, ultrasound and in-house pathology.
- On open-door policy with management.
- Regular team meetings, vet-only meetings, and a collaborative group chat to quickly share and exchange information and opinions.
What we do:
At Richmond & Wilberforce Vet, no two days are the same. While there are some days where it’s a little q***t, most are full of interesting cases. Just this year, our vets have treated cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, birds, lizards, snakes, koalas, crocodiles and cheetahs!
We work closely with WIRES, donating a lot of our time and resources and to treating our native wildlife, we provide subsidised desexing procedures through our local animal shelter, we are constantly rescuing kittens found in gutters, and coolest of all, our Veterinary Director, Dr Tom Winters, is the on-call veterinarian for The Wild Cats Conservation Centre, treating their cheetahs, snow leopards, caracals, snapping turtles, and other amazing resident animals. While we can’t promise you’ll also get to treat them, we can promise you’ll definitely get to meet them!
What some of our staff have to say:
“Richmond and Wilberforce vets are fantastic clinics to work for. Both the nursing and veterinary teams are extremely supportive, and we all work together to give our patients the best care. We help each other with cases and different procedures and are encouraged to expand our knowledge and techniques.”
- Dr Wood
“Richmond and Wilberforce Vets is like a family - but not the dysfunctional kind! We celebrate wins and commiserate losses as a team. We enjoy practicing a high standard of medicine and I love that we treat most things furred, feathered, or scaled. I couldn’t ask for much more!”
- Dr Kurtz
"Richmond and Wilberforce Vets has a team of vets and nurses that work collaboratively to provide high standard of care for our patients. We are happy to support each other with cases and procedures, especially for more complex ones, and share knowledge and expertise to reach the best patient outcomes."
- Dr Poon
“I started here as a new grad and never wanted to leave.”
- Dr Winters – Veterinary Director
“I’ve had the pleasure of working at Richmond and Wilberforce Vet Hospitals for 5 years, and it’s been an incredible experience. The staff are amazing and supportive, and many have become close friends, making every shift enjoyable. I feel so lucky every day to be a part of a team that feels like a family.
Each day is unique, and you never know what will come through the door, but you can guarantee that you’ll get through it as a team and have a few (or a lot) of laughs along the way!
Our head vet, Dr. Tom, and our practice manager, Eden, are fantastic. They’re kind, caring, and constantly strive to create a positive workplace and drive change in the industry for the better. If you are looking for caring and positive team to work with and some new friends that make coming to work exciting every day. I encourage you to come work with us!”
- Claire, Veterinary Nurse
"At Richmond & Wilberforce Vets I’m encouraged and supported with my continuing education goals, I’m surrounded by a hard-working and dedicated team of people who love animals, I'm fed sushi and cookies in our regular staff meetings, and I’m led by managers who I can have a laugh with and go to when I need help or when I have ideas to improve the way we do things.”
- Naomi, Veterinary Nurse
