About the role:

The Prevention Veterinarian plays a vital role in supporting community outreach programs and activities aimed at improving animal welfare standards, awareness and education across the state, and therefore helping RSPCA Victoria to reach its vision of ending cruelty to all animals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform surgical desexing procedures at the RSPCA Victoria Pearcedale clinic, ensuring high standards of pre- and post-operative care and accurate medical record-keeping.
  • Provide on-site support at low-cost vaccination events, including event setup, procedure execution, and team/public liaison.
  • Deliver exceptional service and education to clients and the public, promoting positive animal welfare outcomes and the organisation's services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to animal care and client interactions, in line with RSPCA Victoria protocols.
  • Meet annual continuing professional development (CPD) requirements to maintain veterinary registration and up-to-date clinical knowledge.
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members, fostering skill development and contributing to the growth of RSPCA Victoria's prevention programs.

What we are looking at from you:

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science, current Victoria Veterinary Surgeon Registration, and microchipping license.
  • Experience performing surgical procedures, particularly high-volume desexing.
  • The ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekend work to attend Community Outreach activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment, including the ability to develop the capability of less experienced team members.

Recruitment Requirements:

  • Valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Current and valid tetanus vaccination (or willingness to obtain).
