About Us
Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital (BBWH) is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to conserving and protecting Australian wildlife through expert veterinary care, rehabilitation, research, and education.
As one of only a few all-species wildlife hospitals in NSW, our experienced veterinary team provides free care to sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife across the Northern Rivers region. BBWH operates from a state-of-the-art mobile hospital (Matilda) and is open 7 days a week.
Our team is also actively engaged in national disease surveillance through our partnership with Wildlife Health Australia and in cutting-edge wildlife conservation research through our collaboration our partner organisations.
The Opportunity
As a Wildlife Veterinarian at Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, you will work as part of a passionate and supportive team dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care to Australia’s native wildlife. You’ll have the chance to treat a wide variety of species and use advanced diagnostics and surgical techniques in our purpose-built mobile hospital, Matilda.
Your role will include hands-on medical and surgical care, as well as mentoring veterinary students and collaborating with a diverse team of veterinary nurses, volunteers, and wildlife carers. Strong communication and teamwork are essential as you’ll engage with carers, rescue organisations, and the broader community to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
In addition to clinical work, you’ll contribute to our national wildlife disease surveillance efforts in partnership with Wildlife Health Australia. There may also be future opportunities to participate in research and conservation projects through our developing collaboration with our partner organisations.

About You

Essential Criteria
- Veterinary degree registrable in NSW.
- Minimum two years of veterinary practice experience, including Australian wildlife medicine.
- Strong clinical skills in medical and surgical wildlife care, including post-mortem examination.
- Vaccinations: Q fever, Rabies, Tetanus.
- Demonstrated teamwork, mentoring, and communication skills.
